Alcúdia is a municipality and township of the Spanish autonomous community of the Balearic Islands, and a main tourist centre on the island of Majorca. Apart from the nearby sandy beaches the main tourist attraction is the Hidropark, as well as being home to Hotetur Bellevue complex, the largest holiday resort in Europe. Every Sunday and Tuesday there is a market in the old town of Alcúdia.

The old town has an ancient Medieval- from XIV Century fort wall. The walls are not Roman, but there are remains of a Roman town just outside the town walls, in front of the Church of St. Jaume, called Pollentia. There is also a small Roman theatre. The walled town is beautiful, with much of it being pedestrianized and with plenty of squares with places to eat and drink. North of the wall is a bull ring, although most fights are mock fights. Further north and west are many coves ideal for sunbathing or snorkeling.

The beach at Alcúdia is 6 miles (9.7 km) long and stretches as far as C’an Picafort. Alcúdia joins on to Playa de Muro which is home to S’Albufera; a protected nature reserve that is very popular with bird-spotters. All along the white sandy beach you can rent pedaloes, parasails, banana boats, tubes and the like. The sea is very shallow for a long time making it ideal for small kids, and there is little, if any, tide. There are also bars/restaurants at regular intervals situated right on the beach. As you move South the resort gets quieter but the sea can be less calm.

From Port d’Alcúdia you can take boat trips around the coast of the north part of Majorca. You can take daily ferries to Minorca and Barcelona as well, but only during the tourism season.

The port has classier establishments lining the harbour. There are also nice shops along the harbour where you can buy porcelain, jewellery and the like. The harbour is pedestrianized and beautiful to walk along in the early evening.

Alcúdia is less then one hour from Palma Airport by car.

The majority of buildings in Cala d’Or are painted in traditional Mediterranean white and in the classic Ibizan style. The outskirts of the settlement are home to quiet holiday villas.

Cala d’Or is approximately 75 minutes from Palma airport but suffers very little from through traffic. The nearest major town to Cala d’Or is Santanyi which lies further inland. The pretty fishing port of Porto Petro is only a five minute journey by car and can also be reached by the mini train.

Cala d’Or is a holiday resort on the east coast of Majorca consisting of three principal areas: the town centre of Cala d’Or, Cala Egos and Cala Ferrera. It offers many small, fine sandy beaches including Cala Gran, Cala d’Or, Cala Egos, Cala Es Forti, Cala Serena and Majorca. A mini ‘road train’ regularly runs for holidaymakers between different parts of the resort and the beaches. The town centre is very lively in the summer months but much more low key than the larger and more populated resorts in Majorca. The pedestrianised area offers a variety of shops, bars, and restaurants and a wide selection of international cuisine. Also popular is the marina area which welcomes exclusive yachts and chartered boats throughout the year, offering some of the best protection from storms in the whole of Majorca, although the entrance can be very tight for turning. The marina is also near restaurants and bars.

Cap de Formentor forms the eastern end of Majorca’s Formentor peninsula. The Majorcans also call the cape the Meeting point of the winds. Cap de Formentor is a spectacular bluff, located on the northernmost point of the Balaeric Island Majorca. Its highest point, Fumart, is 384m above sea level. It has many associated bays, including Cala Fiquera, Cala Murta and Cala Pi de la Posada.

The 13.5 km street which runs from Port de Pollenca to Cap de Formentor was built by the Italian engineer Antonio Paretti. His masterpiece on Majorca, however, was the snake to Sa Calobra. Instead of being overwhelmed by what stood in his way on the cliffs, Parretti observed the Tramuntana winds and understood: where the slope was too steep, he made a curve. When he had to remove part of the cliffs, he placed the waste in other places where it was needed. The result was the two streets, which like are nestled together in the mountains like abandoned silk ribbons.

Sóller is a town and municipality near the north west coast of Mallorca, in the Balearic Islands of Spain. The town is some 3km inland, from the Port de Sóller, in a large, bowl-shaped valley that also includes the village of Fornalutx and the hamlets of Biniaraix and Binibassi. The combined population is around 13,000. A famous tramway, the Orange Express links Sóller to Port de Sóller.

Sóller is linked by the historic railway, the Ferrocarril de Sóller, and by a highway with a toll tunnel, to the Majorcan capital of Palma. The Andratx-Pollença highway also runs through the valley. The Ferrocaril was completed in 1911 after work began on the profits of the orange and lemon trade.
map of the Sóller tramway

The present-day economy is based mainly on tourism and foreign residents, complementary to the agricultural economy based around citrus and olive groves, which has, in recent years, suffered from low prices.

The focus of the town is the Plaça Constitució which is surrounded by cafés and has plane trees and a fountain in its centre. The tram passes through the Plaça on its way to and from the main station which has been restored to incorporate a museum of Picasso and Joan Miro. The church of Sant Bartomeu facing the east side of the Plaça is flanked by the ajuntament (town hall) and the Banco de Sóller, a remarkable 1912 Modernista building with defining ironwork, by the Catalan architect Joan Rubió i Bellver, a follower of Antoni Gaudí. The bank’s organisation was founded in 1889 with the money of emigrants who returned to Sóller prosperous. On the other hand, the church can clearly be seen standing out from the canopy of the town from other parts of the Vall de Sóller (the surrounding valley). The original building dates from some time before 1236. The current main interior structure is now largely Baroque (1688-1733). The campanar (belltower) blends in well with its neo-gothic design. The remarkable façade is a 1904 construction also by Joan Rubió. The old street plan is of Islamic origin, lined with historic houses of the sixteenth to eighteenth centuries. The town is bisected by a fast flowing river with a number of bridges and has a covered market. Sóller is also notable for the houses built in the early twentieth century by emigrants who returned wealthy to the town, particularly those on the Gran Via which reflect the fin de siècle Art Nouveau styles of France.

The renowned Jardí Botanic (botanical garden) is on the outskirts of the town and is laid out with the plants of the Balearics and the Mediterranean islands. The Modernista mansion in the garden houses El Museu Balear de Ciències Naturals[1] (The Museum of Balearic Natural Sciences). Despite its location next to the highway (currently under construction) the garden is quiet.

Since 1980, Sóller has hosted a week-long international folklore festival every July.

Palma (Catalan and Spanish: Palma official, Palma de Mallorca unofficial) is the major city and port on the island of Majorca and capital city of the autonomous community of the Balearic Islands in Spain. The name of Ciutat de Mallorca (city of Majorca), and even simply Ciutat, was used before the War of the Spanish Succession and is still used by people in Majorca. However its official name was actually Mallorca, the same denomination as the very island. It is situated on the south coast of the island on the Bay of Palma. As of the 2007 census, the population of the city of Palma proper was 383,107, and the population of the entire urban area was estimated to be 517,285, ranking as the twelfth largest urban area of Spain. Almost half of the total population of Majorca live in Palma. The archipelago of Cabrera, though widely separated from Palma proper, is administratively considered part of the municipality. Its airport, Son Sant Joan, serves over 22 million passengers each year. The Marivent Palace was offered by the city to the then Prince Juan Carlos I of Spain.
